This article talks about al-Qaida groups and how they are focusing on smaller-scale attacks, rather than huge attacks such as 9/11. FBI Director Mueller says, "terror groups understand that launching a larger attack, perhaps a more devastating attack, is not worth the additional effort when you can get substantial coverage and impact with smaller attacks." It sounds like terror groups are completely changing their strategy, which is still just as scary because smaller attacks can happen more frequently. Mueller also talks about how the internet is making it much easier for Islamic extremists to find people already in the U.S. who can be radicalized and persuaded to undergo training and carry out attacks here. The internet, in a way, is helping terrorism become easier and more wide spread. This is a detrimental impact that internet is causing on America. At the same time, Mueller states that Muslim communities in the US are becoming more willing to report any suspicious behavior or give tips. It is scary to me that terrorists are using the same internet that i use to help them in their fight against America
This is a great article. As you can see our government has become more secure and I believe thats why terrorists are not interested in doing another major attack. It is too hard and almost impossible to have another 9/11 attack. Our government would not allow it. Also the internet portion is a interesting point because its showing how small our world is and what people are capable of. ITs a world connect system where we all could do great things or make it easier to do terrible things.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mackonze. Since 9/11, our efforts to prevent terrorism has gotten. With all the searches and investigations, most citizens feel more safe and secure. Also, I agree that the smaller attacks do get alot of attention but all attacks are bad because innocent lives are lose. No one deserves to die. Its very awesome that Muslims are coming out and willing to report any suspicious behaviors or tips. This is of great healp because we are able to bust the terrorist groups before they act. It shows teamwork against terrorism which is absolutely good.
